The girl child

Is the number of the girl child in India started to dwindle?

A relative of mine has a son who is 'ready for marriage' as the saying goes!  But he is not getting a suitable match.  He seems to have mellowed down a little considering that he was always an outgoing boy.  The enthusiasm with which they started the bride hunt has slowed down.  They think that living in a small city and not a big city like Bangalore is a disadvantage.  Known relatives are not willing to give their girls to live in small towns!

Today seems to be the day of the girl child, or may be this is only a start.  Already the parents of the girl child seem to have an upper hand in match making matters.

One funny comment the boy's mother made is that she feels there are few girls in the marriage market! Is the girl population in India dwindling?

CROTONS new paintings of Foliage

Some of my well wishers, and even some of my fans suggested that I use vibrant and bright colors in my paintings.  I generally use subtle colors like pale pinks and pale blues and purples.  I guess the colors I use reflect my mood.

It is said that blues and greens are soothing to the mind, and bright reds and oranges are stimulating colors.  In fact people use bright oranges and luminous greens as wall paints in homes nowadays.

So, keeping with this trend, and also as I am in an energetic mood, I have done 2 paintings of 'Foliage', using vibrant pinks and yellows.

'Foliage' is a series of paintings of plants and flowers.  They are inspired from the plants and foliage I see everyday during my walk in our local park.

I saw these 'crotons' the other day in the park. I was mesmerized by the colors on the leaves.  The colors were made even more vibrant  by the sunlight that fell on them, almost making them transluscent.

Two such paintings in vibrant colors called 'CROTONS' are listed now on ebay in the auction format ending Sunday 25th May 11a.m.

Please click  on CROTON-1  and CROTON-2  to view and bid on these paintings.

To see more of my paintings, please visit my art blog  http://usettyblog.blogspot.com   and feel free to subscribe to my blog to receive free email alerts on my new paintings, and do not forget to leave your comments under each painting.

Abstract Art

Hi all

Abstract Art is my most favourite art style.  I love to paint in an abstract fashion.  It is a great pleasure to pick up my brushes and dab colors on the canvas without a care in the world about details, and create beautiful paintings which are a feast to the eyes, and at the same time keep the viewer interested.

There are many stages of abstraction, and this time I have painted 'Foliage', which can be called as 'abstracted realism' paintings.

Please CLICK HERE  to have a look and bid on these paintings that are listed on ebay for sale in the auction format.  The auction will be ending  on May 20th Tuesday evening.

Please also visit my painting blog "Usha"s Fine Art Creations"and feel free to leave your comments under each painting.

Rave review for this painting by US art website

Hi guys

I recently painted for a project by the US art website called about.com shich is an undertaking of the 'New York Times company'.   The project was called 'Portrait of a Flower'.  I painted a close-up of the 'genneri' flower, and received rave comments from the project guide Marion Boddy Evans. I appreciate her frank and profuse comments, on how she feels that this is a 'glorious painting' and how I have used purples and pinks for shadows, and not black color.

Plz click  here to read her full comments

I have listed this painting on ebay in the auction format, in the name of 'Pink Flower' , along with another painting called 'White flower' (jasmine), done in a similar style.

Plz click here to bid for these paintings , which will be available until 12th May 1p.m on ebay.

Please also visit my blog 'Usha's Fine Art Creations'  and feel free to write ur comments on my paintings, and also do not forget to leave ur email to subscribe to my blog  and eceive free email alerts whenever i post a new painting on my blog.

A Texture effect painting

Hi all

I was busy the whole of last month, painting for a project floated by an American art website called about.com  .  Finally I found time, and logged on today.  Welcome to all newcomers on rediff, and thanks for adding me as your friend.

I have just listed a painting called 'Bougenvillea' on ebay.in, and the picture of this painting I have specially displayed here for my rediff friends. You can also bid for it if you are interested by clicking  here , or just go to ebay.in , and enter 'original paintings' in the search bar.

This is a special painting, because it is done in a new style called the 'impasto' style.  In this method, big blobs of paint is taken and smeared on the canvas using a painting knife, while creating the art work.  This creates a beautiful texture effect on the canvas, which cannot be captured easily on camera, unless taken by a proffessional.

I am also working on my self portrait, which I hope to finish soon, and plan to display it specially for my rediff friends, and invite comments.

Meanwhile, if you are interested in seeing more of my paintings, plz visit my blog  http://usettyblog.blogspot.com  , and do not hesitate to leave your comments under each painting.  You can also subscribe to my blog to receive alerts whenever I post a new painting.

luv all

until next time

First sale

Hi everybody,  I am very excited to write about the first sale of my painting I made on ebay.  At first I had very mixed feelings, even as I packed the painting to be courriered.  I was so happy, and at the same time feeling like I was sending away my daughter to her in-laws after marriage!!!!, whats wrong with me I thought later.  somebody thought my painting good enough to spend money on it!!! I must be happy about it.  thats right.  for an artist all paintings are dear to them , like children. But I am happy that the painting is going to hang in somebody's house, where it will be appreciated by more people.  I felt even more elated, when the buyer, an art lover, left a positive feedback score on the ebay site.  The painting u see on my dream space is the painting I parted with.

Its called 'The Wave' , an acrylic painting of size 16"x12".  It is done in 2 styles, mainlly the background in a 'realistic style', and th foreground, which is the 'wave' itself, in the 'impressionist' style.  More on stlyes in painting i plan to write in my next post.

I have listed another 2 of my paintings on ebay now, and u can see them by clicking   HERE   The 2 new paintings are called  'Red Hot Chillies', and Water Melons'.  Both done in the realistic style.

To see more of my paintings, and to know more about me,  visit my blog  http://usettyblog.blogspot.com   , and don't forget to leave a comment.  You can also subscribe to my blog, to get email alerts whenever I post a new painting I create.

thanks all my friends who visited my blog and left comments and wrote to me on the guest book. see ya

Not New to Rediff anymore

Since I am new to rediff, I was reading a lot of posts and getting to know everybody.  I came across many people and felt that I am not alone.  Many have written to me, and I have written to many too. I have made a lot of friends so fast. I do not feel new to rediff anymore, and it is only 2 days since I came here. I am new to this sort of introductions and have started to enjoy and feel at home already.

At first I became a part of rediff to meet more artists like myself, and all those who like art.  But I found out after reading posts that there are a lot of people around talking a lot of important matters and got involved in all of them.

I love it.

Thank God I am not alone.
